Summer Essentials

To kick off the start of  summer, I compiled a list of beauty items that I feel are necessary for the warm summer days & nights.

1. Sunscreen
  It is THE most important item on this  list, even if you have a darker complexion  you are still at risk of sun damage and   skin cancer. Today most moisturizers contain sunblock but usually it is a SPF of 15-20, for more protection I suggest using sunscreen that is broad spectrum of SPF 35 or higher.  {Neutrogena Sheer Touch 50 SPF is an excellent sunscreen for the face, especially if you have oily skin}

2. Primer
After you've applied your moisturizer, preferably with sunscreen, you need to prime the skin before applying your foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturizer. Primer acts as a base for the foundation to stick to, it evens the skin's surface by filling in fine lines and pores, and also helps your makeup stay on longer.
{For warmer months I use Milk of Magnesia as a primer and I swear by it. Benefit Porefessional is a great primer as well}

3. Tinted moisturizer
A great alternative to foundation is tinted  moisturizer, especially for those who prefer a light coverage. Tinted moisturizers or BB creams offer sheer, light coverage but can also be set with powder foundations for an opaque, matte finish. Most contain sunscreen so if you are a mom like myself or running late for work this can be a time saver. Keep in mind, there are plenty of brands that offer tinted moisturizers and BB creams so get a sample if you can to see which one works best for you. {Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer is an excellent option}

4. Bold lipstick
This is probably the easiest way to look glamorous. It's hot out and you don't feel like piling on a ton of makeup, just grab a fun, bright lip color and instantly you look dressed up. Any shade of pink, purple, orange or red will work, the bolder the better. I like using lip stains because I don't have to worry about my lipstick melting in my purse or beach bag.
{OCC Nylon similar to MAC Candy Yum Yum is a pink any complexion can pull off}

5. Water
It is most definitely a beauty item in my book. Water is essential for healthy, glowing skin, it keeps the skin hydrated and helps your body function properly.
Not to mention nothing beats the heat like a glass of ice cold water so drink up!

 Bonus!
Sunglasses
Yes you are reading this correctly! It isn't just a fashion statement, sunglasses provide protection to the eye area. The skin around the eye is the most delicate area on the face so keeping it covered from the blazing sun is a must. No one wants fine lines, crows feet and wrinkles, so I personally wear sunglasses year round.  {Most have built in UVA/UVB protection in the lens, when purchasing look for a sticker on the lens indicating UV protection}
